Post-Op Instructions
Simple aftercare for a smoother recovery.
Follow the instructions Dr. Tiana gives at the visit. These general reminders can help after common pediatric dental procedures, but call the office if anything feels unusual.
After local anesthesia
Children may be numb for a few hours. Watch closely so they do not chew, bite, or scratch the cheek, lip, or tongue while sensation returns.
- Choose soft foods until numbness wears off
- Avoid hot foods or drinks while your child is numb
- Call if numbness lasts unusually long or your child injures the lip or cheek
After fillings or crowns
Mild soreness or sensitivity can happen after restorative care. It should gradually improve.
- Avoid sticky or very hard foods if a crown or temporary material was placed
- Brush normally but gently around the area
- Call if the bite feels high, pain worsens, or a crown comes loose
After extractions
Help your child protect the clot and rest after a tooth removal.
- Use gauze as directed and avoid vigorous rinsing at first
- Skip straws, spitting, and crunchy foods during early healing
- Call right away for heavy bleeding, fever, swelling that worsens, or pain that is not controlled
Appliances and mouthguards
Space maintainers, mouthguards, and other appliances need daily cleaning and should be checked if they feel loose or uncomfortable.
- Brush around appliances carefully
- Keep mouthguards clean and dry when not in use
- Call if an appliance bends, breaks, feels sharp, or comes out
