Kathiann shares the brushing, flossing, and home-care reminders that help families build healthier routines.
April marks National Dental Hygienists Week, and we are excited to spotlight one of the biggest reasons our patients leave smiling: Kathiann, our kind, skilled, and patient dental hygienist.

A Huge Thank You to Kathiann
At North Shore Smiles, Kathiann does so much more than clean teeth. She builds trust with young patients, helps nervous kids feel brave in the chair, and gives parents practical tools to support oral health at home.
To celebrate, we asked Kathiann what she wishes every parent knew. Here are the reminders that can make home care easier.
What Your Dental Hygienist Wants You to Know
- We can tell when brushing or flossing has been missed, and that is okay. The goal is to help, not judge.
- A child who hates brushing is more common than parents think. Brushing together, using a song, or trying a timer can help.
- Flossing starts earlier than many parents realize. Once two teeth touch, flossing helps prevent cavities between teeth.
- What happens between visits matters most. Daily brushing, water after snacks, and healthy routines make the biggest difference.
- Questions are welcome. Ask about toothpaste, floss, brushing struggles, fluoride, or anything else on your mind.
Smile-Friendly Tip of the Month
Try a reward chart. Sticker charts can be a great motivator for brushing and flossing. A week of consistent brushing can earn a small prize, extra story time, or choosing the next family movie.

Is It Time for Your Child's Next Visit?
We recommend visits every six months to stay ahead of potential issues. If you are unsure when your child's last cleaning was, give us a call. Our team is always happy to help.
